At TRECA, we understand that each student has unique interests and goals, so we strive to provide flexible, comprehensive online learning opportunities that help our students find their path. Our online career technical education curriculum is no exception. TRECA Tech provides students the opportunity to explore a variety of pathways, earn industry-specific certifications, and get a leg up in college or career, all while earning credits towards graduation.
Traditionally, high school students have taken vocational education classes to prepare themselves for careers after graduation. Now, as many career paths become increasingly technical and require higher levels of skill, career technical education classes have become quite popular, with as much as half of the U.S. population's high school students enrolled in at least one career tech class, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Our technical education courses give Ohio students the chance to explore a variety of career paths in diverse subjects including cybersecurity and animation.

Cybersecurity
By 2025, 75.44 billion devices are expected to be connected to the Internet. Each device presents a potential vulnerability threat actors can exploit to steal information, damage assets, or commit acts of cyberterrorism. By becoming a security professional, you help protect the infrastructure of our nation's government and businesses from intrusions and attacks. TRECA offers the Cybersecurity pathway to help in this effort. You'll work towards becoming a security analyst using industry tools and techniques to identify and analyze threats. The pathway introduces operating systems with a focus on Linux, then moves on to monitoring and defending networks against malicious attacks.

Interactive Media
If a picture is worth a thousand words, interactive media is worth a million phrases! Interactive media is the design and development of visual graphics to convey a message and engage people. In this pathway, you'll learn about color theory and composition, raster graphics, vector drawing, and portfolio management, all in the Adobe Create Cloud. Courses include instruction on HTML/CSS, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Students completing the pathway gain skills and knowledge towards earning an Adobe industry certification.
Web Programming
<p> Hello, world! </p> Programming is creating instructions to control a computer. Without program software, computers would simply use electricity and flash lights. In this pathway, you’ll learn how to design and develop the instructions, called code. By mastering code, you can create animations, analyze math problems, author web sites, and develop basic games. The courses start with information technology, then move to web design, JavaScript programming, and animation.

Meet Requirements
To enroll in TRECA Tech, students must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be enrolled as a full-time student at TRECA Digital Academy.
- Have supplied up-to-date Ohio residency information that has been verified.
- Be currently in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12. Students in grade 8 who are entering 9th grade the next year may apply for consideration.
- Have a weighted GPA of 2.0 or higher, or progress toward that requirement; In the case of 8th-grade students, they must be recommended by a current or former teacher or school counselor with parent permission.
- Have maintained an attendance rate of 90% or better (based on total hours of attendance, or 5.12 hours each scheduled school day).
- Have participated in all applicable state-mandated testing.

Submit Application
Students can submit an application at any point within the school year but will not begin TRECA Tech classes until the start of the upcoming semester. Once you submit your application, your school counselor will be in contact to review next steps and discuss pathway options!
