On Friday, January 25, TRECA Digital Academy students toured the production and broadcast facilities of Spectrum News of Columbus.
Despite cold weather conditions, TRECA Digital Academy braved the elements for an exclusive tour of one of Columbus' local news agencies. Spectrum News is a "24/7 hyperlocal content network" owned and operated by Charter Communications. Instead of focusing on national stories, they have a unique focus on delivering news that unites Ohioans. By special invite, TRECA was permitted behind the scenes to see how Spectrum's teams develop news all the way from a lead reported by journalists to a news story delivered to your TV, computer, or mobile device!
The tour was open to all ages of students, and it explored career aspects of reporting digital news. We were able to see the production room, audio booth, control room, and weather room. We were also exposed to a number of specific career opportunities from news and weather anchors, to audio controllers and technical directors. They all work together to deliver the news we see on the TV or web!
We want to extend a very special thanks to all of the staff at Spectrum who were able to make this learning experience possible!
