Digital Academy students visit Hale Farm & Village

On Thursday, October 26, TRECA Digital Academy students went on a field trip to Hale Farm & Village! Students took a self-guided tour of the village and learned how families lived, worked, and played in the Western Reserve. Students were able to see the first settlement cabin, and learned where the phrase “night night, sleep tight” came from, why a dollar is referred to as a “buck,” and all about the barter system. Students saw live demonstrations at the Blacksmith Shop and at the Glassblower’s Shop. They learned how glass is made and what you can do to color the glass. Student then visited the General Store and compared the cost of things back then to now. We also stopped to see the Meetinghouse and the Goldsmith House, and learned that the color yellow was a status symbol in that era. We ended our visit at the Hale Farm Barn and learned about the different animals they had, where they came from, and what their purpose was. Some of the students even took turns grinding up corn. It was a beautiful day to tour the village! Thank you to our families and everyone at the village for a great day!
